The Manganese

Manganese is mainly used for the preparation of alloy steels. We have indeed known for about two centuries that adding manganese to iron makes it harder without making it a more brittle object. This metal is found in rails and switches or in electric batteries. It also serves as a fertilizer for many plants.

The glass can be tinted purple, brown or black with manganese dioxide MnO2.

The addition of manganese in ceramics increases their resistance to corrosion, for marine applications for example.
